Why I Wrote This Book

My first novel failed...

...because the story had no pulse.

The first book I attempted was everything I thought a serious novel should be—philosophical, theological, weighty.

But the protagonist was too passive, too distant. It read more like a dissertation than a story.

I had constructed a character on the outside of faith and science, but gave him no compelling reason to move forward.

And neither could I.

My first novel failed...

...because the story had no pulse.
